The origins of our Supreme Oriental Beauty Rare Loose Tea

Our Organic Supreme Oriental Beauty (頂級東方美人) is quite a distinctive, premium tea. The beautifully shaped white tipped leaf is a testament to its carefully controlled oxidisation; this keeps the leaf whole and sweet flavour intact.

The tea derives from Formosan Farm's organic spring harvest, from earlier this year.

Mr. Shu is the affiliated farmer here, and being the fifth generation of tea farmers in Toufen, Taiwan, he continues to adhere to his family's organic farming methods.

This tea is grown at 200m altitude and imparts a sweet honey aroma. The natural fruitiness of the leaves is worked by Mother Nature herself, with the help of leafhopper insects.

Ingredients

Pure Taiwanese oolong tea

Tasting notes

This tea offers fresh ripe fruit aroma and light ruby infusion. A complex depth of flavours with pine, peach and orchid notes with honey sweet mouthfeel.

Region

Miaoli County is a district on the Western side of Taiwan, facing the Taiwan Strait, with the coastal plains giving way to high mountains as we progress east towards the centre of the island. The Xueshan Mountains, with peaks ranging from 2,600 to 3,600 meters, traverse most of the Eastern part of the county.

Learn more about the Miaoli County, Western Taiwan

The climate range from humid subtropical (Cfa) in the lower areas to temperate oceanic (Cfb) on the high peaks. In the plains and lower hills, the temperatures typically range from 13°C to 21°C in the winter, and from 26°C to 32°C in the summer. Summer days are wet, oppressive and overcast, whilst the winter days are mild and mostly clear, with moderate breeze.

The higher peaks experience much stronger winds, high humidity with steady precipitation throughout the year, and lower temperatures, with snow between December and April. Fog is common, with peaks dramatically emerging from behind clouds and mist. Due to the variety of climates and elevation, the region offers vary diverse habitats, rich in plant and animal species ranging from tropical to alpine.

The gentler slopes on this side of the range, with their rich volcanic soil, are perfect for cultivation. The county is especially known for its production of strawberries, as well as rice, sweet potato, citrus and watermelon. The tea gardens are located on the lower hills.
