This spectacular First Flush Darjeeling black tea is painstakingly crafted in the extraordinary remote tea garden, Jungpana. The garden is nestled in the rugged, mountainous region of Kurseong in the foothills of the Himalayas.

The brew elegantly expands before ending on a delicately fruity and sweet note. This exquisite First Flush is full of refreshing spring flavours and is the perfect choice for lovers of Darjeeling tea.

Spectacular organic tea gardens in Darjeeling

Jungpana, which name stems from the Tibetan term for 'sweet young girl', is one of the most spectacular organic tea gardens in Darjeeling. The Jungpana garden is tucked away on a rugged mountainside at altitudes ranging from 3,000 to 4,500ft.

Surrounded by pine forests on the upper reaches to the north, and swiftly gurgling mountain streams to the south, east and west and skirted by dense vegetation, the tea garden is almost impregnable, cocooned by Mother Nature for safe keeping.

No wonder that Jungpana is endearingly referred to as 'An Island in the Mountains'. The environment boasts of a large species of flora, that attract birds and butterflies, rarely seen elsewhere. The Himalayan bear - attracted by the damp and mossy pine forests, as well as leopards and deer, car also be spotted in the ferny undergrowth, on the periphery of the estate.

Region

Darjeeling, India

Darjeeling, nestled in the Himalayas of West Bengal, is bordered by Nepal, Sikkim, and Bangladesh. The district, rising to elevations from 1,000m to 3,600m, presents a dramatic landscape that supports diverse microclimates from subtropical to tundra. This variance allows Darjeeling to produce its unique high-grown teas, which are world-renowned for their delicate and complex flavours. The city itself, positioned at 2,100m, offers stunning views of Kanchenjunga and even distant Mount Everest from Tiger Hill. Darjeeling’s climate varies significantly with elevation, featuring wet, overcast summers and mild, clear winters, ideal for tea cultivation.

The tea gardens thrive on steep slopes, benefiting from efficient drainage and rich biodiversity, including rare orchids and the endangered red panda. Despite its proximity to Assam, Darjeeling’s teas are remarkably distinct, thanks to its unique topography and climatic conditions. The soil here, loose and prone to landslides, contrasts with Assam’s fertile plains, yet provides perfect conditions for the Camellia sinensis sinensis plant, resulting in teas that burst with flavour each spring.
