The origins of our Liquorice Tea

Liquorice root, mallow petals and a blend of black teas combine in this delicious, aromatic, dark-hued infusion that's perfect as a soothing yet invigorating afternoon black/herbal tea brew. So if you're feeling under the weather in the midst of cold and flu season, our Liquorice Root Tea's sweet, subtle aroma of anise and invigorating qualities of black leaves will restore you, sip by sip.

Out of the caddy, our Liquorice Tea blend boasts large dark rolled leaves with fat pieces of yellow liquorice root and vivid blue mallow flowers. Thanks to the anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties of its glycyrrhizic acid content, liquorice root has been a part of traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years. It is associated with relieving gastrointestinal ailments such as acid reflux and peptic ulcers and skin disorders such as eczema.

Like mallow flowers, liquorice's antimicrobial powers are also popularly harnessed as a way of easing sore throats, making this tea a great winter go-to. However, the side effects of licorice tea may include raised anxiety when consumed in high doses, high blood pressure and risk to pregnant women – so check for contraindications first and the amounts of licorice tea that allow you to consume this gently sweet tea in moderation.
